How long have you worked with Olmsted County?
I have been with Olmsted County for 29 years, starting as a clerk specialist in the Auditor/Treasurer Office in 1996. In 2011, I moved into my leadership position.
What are some of your job responsibilities?
I manage the customer service areas of PRL. These areas include Vital Records, Information Desk, Recorders, and Passports. My duties are to ensure we have adequate coverage to assist our customers, review and ensure confidential information is secure and procedures are in place, and make sure our team is informed and updated with any state or federal changes.
How would you describe the team of people you work with?
Amazing. We have a great team and work well together. Each team member has their own unique strength, talents, and skill set which gives us great team balance and aids in providing excellent customer service. I’m also a part of our incredible leadership team. We work very well together and are comfortable sharing our ideas and opinions with each other.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy working with the public. PRL has many different areas: Recorders, Vital Records, Information Desk, Elections, Revenue, and Assessment Services. The customer service team answers calls and assists customers. I enjoy being part of all the different areas. The variety makes each day unique. I’m also involved with different associations throughout the state. I have been part of the Minnesota County Recorders Association (MCRA) board and continue to be on various committees. I’m currently on the Minnesota Association of County Officers (MACO) board. I enjoy the collaboration, discussions, and statewide partnerships.
What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
Customer service coverage during busy times. We have cross-training in place to assist with this, but sometimes it can be challenging, and certain duties cannot cross each other because of federal and state requirements.
Describe how you live out one of Olmsted County’s values of being thoughtful, principled, inclusive, service focused, and collaborative in your work.
Service focused. It’s important that we provide the best customer service to our community. This means providing timely, accurate, and informative information and services.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy anything outside like gardening, walking, yard work, etc.
What would you tell someone considering a job at Olmsted County?
I would strongly encourage working for Olmsted County. I have met so many amazing people and made numerous friendships over my 29 years working here. The flexibility, benefits, and work environment make it a rewarding and enjoyable career.
